This accessibility statement applies to https://chu.cam.ac.uk.
This website is run by Churchill College. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:
- change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings
- zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
- navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software
- listen to most of the website using a screen reader
AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.
How accessible this website is
We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:
- live and pre-recorded video and audio do not have transcripts or audio descriptions
- some images do not have text descriptions

Technical information about this website’s accessibility
The Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the ‘accessibility regulations’) do not apply to Churchill College. However, Churchill College is committed to making its website accessible and in this regard to complying voluntarily with the accessibility regulations. This accessibility statement is published in that context.
Compliance status
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the following non-compliances.
Non-accessible content
The content listed is non-accessible for the following reasons.
- Some images do not have a text alternative, so people using a screen reader cannot access the information. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content).
- Video and audio files on our site do not have audio description or transcripts. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criteria 1.2.3 (audio description or text alternative).
- Some URL link text does not describe its purpose or destination. This means that it is not always clear where a link will take the user. This fails WCAG2.2 success criterion 2.4.4 (Link purpose)
- Some iframes do not have titles. This fails WCAG2.2 success criterion 4.1.2 (Name, Role, Value).
What we’re doing to improve accessibility
We’re working to fix the issues identified in this accessibility statement and aim to fix these during 2025.
Preparation of this accessibility statement
This statement was prepared on 27th January 2025. This website was last tested on 27th January 2025 against the WCAG 2.2 AA standard. It will be reviewed again before 27th January 2026.
We used an automated accessibility testing tool (WAVE, from WebAIM) as well as Google Lighthouse. We looked at core pages like the home page and contact page with a sample of other pages from across the site. We looked for different types of pages containing a range of elements, like forms or different layout styles.
We only recorded severe or critical errors. We did manual tests for some of the most common barriers to users with accessibility needs that are not likely to be found by automated tests.
This includes tabbing through each page without a mouse to check:
- the user can navigate to all links and interactive elements without a mouse (WCAG 2.1.1 Keyboard)
- there are no keyboard traps (WCAG 2.1.2 No Keyboard Trap)
- the focus surrounding elements is visible (WCAG 2.4.7 Focus Visible)
- focus order is logical (WCAG 2.4.3 Focus Order)
- there are no unexpected actions when tabbing (WCAG 3.2.1 On Focus)
Each page has been viewed at different zoom settings up to 400%, and we simulate viewing the page on a small screen to check page navigation and readability with no content cut off (WCAG 1.4.4 Resize text and WCAG 1.4.10 Reflow). The tests were carried out by the Communications Manager.
