Counting the Hours: Incantati in the Recital Room

January 28 @ 7:30 pm – 8:30 pm
Alumna Rachel Stott is bringing her early music group Incantati to Churchill College as they present J.S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations, alongside readings and other music of nighttime.
Through spoken and sung narration, the programme develops the story told by Bach’s biographer Forkel of the young harpsichordist, Johann Gottlieb Goldberg, playing to soothe his insomniac employer.
J.S. Bach’s Goldberg variations, are intermingled with other music, including canons from the middle ages (Machaut, Dunstable & Gibbons) that give a historical context for the Bach, and arrangements of On an overgrown path by Leoš Janáček.
Satoko Doi-Luck – harpsichord
Petra Samhaber-Eckhardt – violin
Rachel Stott – viola d’amore
Ibrahim Aziz – viola da gamba
Daniel Gilchrist – narrator
This event is held in the Recital Room, in the Music Centre at Churchill College
