Dr Watson studied preclinical medicine at the University of St Andrews before coming to Cambridge for his clinical medical studies. Like many, he failed to escape Cambridge and undertook his junior medical and specialist cardiology training in the East of England, where he specialized in heart failure and cardiac imaging. He then moved to Oxford for a PhD, working in the Neubauer lab and looking at how cardiac function is influenced by metabolism alongside developing cardiac magnetic resonance spectroscopy techniques. He returned to Cambridge in 2021, where he is now working as a clinical lecturer furthering this research while training in Royal Papworth Hospital’s heart transplant unit.
