Dr Yuma Shimizu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Earth Resources Engineering at Kyoto University. He is a researcher in coastal engineering and computational fluid dynamics (CFD), with a research focus on developing advanced particle-based simulation methods, namely the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) method. His work addresses complex Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) analysis, aiming to solve critical engineering problems in the coastal and ocean fields that are challenging for conventional grid-based approaches.

Dr Shimizu completed his entire academic development at Kyoto University, earning his PhD (2019), Master’s (2017) , and Bachelor’s (2015). After receiving doctorate, he has been working as Assistant Professor in Kyoto University. He previously visited the University of Cambridge for one month in 2018, joining Prof Dongfang Liang’s group. He returns to Cambridge 2025 to continue research.
