An annual bursary of up to £3500 per year to support up to two female students for the duration of their undergraduate degree course at Churchill College.
Amazon UK’s bursary scheme is aimed at helping young women from less advantaged backgrounds fulfil their ambitions of a career in innovation and technology.
The Amazon Future Engineers Bursary will be offered on a means-tested basis, within the framework provided by the Cambridge Bursary Scheme for undergraduates. Preference will be given to female students studying computer science and if none are eligible for bursary support, then male undergraduates studying computer science will be considered. The bursary is open to UK/EU students, and the bursaries are awarded for up to four years subject to satisfactory academic performance.
The Bursary will cover the University contribution to the Cambridge Bursary Scheme for eligible students. The Cambridge Bursary Scheme provides financial assistance up to a value of £3,500 per year to UK/EU students from households which have an income below £62,215.
As well as supporting female students’ living costs for up to four years, Amazon will also provide mentoring on business skills like CV-building and interview techniques, as well as a potential work placement at Amazon’s local Development Centre. Their Cambridge centre supports Amazon innovations such as the development of Alexa, the cloud-based voice service, and Prime Air — a future delivery system designed to deliver parcels by small unmanned aerial vehicles.
