Dr Barry Kingston was a member of the Department of Pathology and was elected a Fellow of Churchill College in 2004. He attended the University of Bristol where he took his first degree and PhD in Biochemistry. He has broad interests in the biological sciences and has conducted research on both animal and plant sources, but his major research interests have primarily involved protein chemistry and molecular biology. After completing his PhD in 1974, he undertook postdoctoral work on plasma proteins at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. He returned to the UK in 1978, and worked for one year as a research scientist with Unilever, and then moved to Cambridge to work at the National Institute of Agricultural Botany(NIAB). In 1981 he moved to the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology where he held a short-term staff appointment. In 1985 he joined the Departmant of Pathology as a University Lecturer. Within the Department of Pathology he worked on collagen genes within both free-living and parasitic nematodes, and on the Alzheimer’s amyloid beta-peptide.
