David Ron conducts research on protein metabolism and the cellular adaptations to protein misfolding at Cambridge University’s Institute of Metabolic Sciences. He received his medical degree from the Technion in Haifa, Israel in 1980. After completing clinical training in Internal Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City and Endocrinology and Metabolism at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, he conducted research on gene expression in adipose tissue. In 1992 he took a faculty position at New York University School of Medicine, establishing a research laboratory at the Skirball Institute of Biomolecular Medicine. In 2009 he resigned his position as the Julius Raynes Professor of Cell Biology and Medicine at NYU to accept a Principal Research Fellowship of the Wellcome Trust and an appointment as the Professor of Cellular Pathophysiology and Clinical Biochemistry at Cambridge University.
