Churchill PhD student, Tom Dendooven (G16), won a Bronze medal at the BUCS 2020 championships in the -100 kg Dan grade category this year. This means Tom is now likely to be qualified for the 2020 UESA games (European University games) in Belgrade (now due to take place in 2021).

Speaking of his achievement, Tom said: “After the individual competition the first day, where I won the bronze medal in the -100kg category, we entered our men’s A-team for the judo team event on the second day. Here we won a bronze medal after beating 5 other teams (including Oxford) and only losing against the eventual gold medallists (Uni of Bath). As such we came only second to Wolverhampton University and University of Bath, both ‘centres of Excellence’ for Judo (meaning they have tailored study tracks for top-judo players). We’re quite proud of this achievement!”
