The latest Churchill Community update

8th July 2020 in Coronavirus

During these testing times it’s reassuring to hear about all of the hard work being done by the Churchill Community to both manage and inform about the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as other work and achievements that have taken place. Here’s what has been happening in the last few days.

Fellow and Statistician Professor Sir David Spiegelhalter discussed the importance of sharing accurate data around the pandemic, and wrote a piece for The Guardian on the best way to interpret the statistics.

Fellow and Social Psychologist Dr Sander van der Linden commented on whether lockdown has forced a permanent change in people's behaviour.

Senior Research Fellow and Computer Scientist Professor Ross Anderson continued to comment on why contract tracing apps are not ending the pandemic.

Molecular Biologist Dr Sarah Teichmann was a co-author of an article newly published in Nature discussing the immune system's response to disease-causing agents.

Fellow and Mathematician Dr Maria Bruna has been awarded a Whitehead Prize in recognition of her outstanding research in asymptotic homogenisation, most prominently in the systematic development of continuum models of interacting particles systems, by the London Mathematical Society.

Extraordinary Fellow and Mathematician Professor Benedikt Löwe was elected to serve on the Board of the Association for Logic, Language and Information (FoLLI). FoLLI is the global learned society advancing research and education on the interfaces between Logic, Linguistics, Computer Science, Cognitive Science, and related disciplines.

We will continue to keep you informed of all of the work being done by the Churchill College Community. If you have any news you would like to share, please get in touch by emailing
