The latest Churchill Community update

During these testing times it’s reassuring to hear about all of the hard work being done by the Churchill Community to both manage and inform about the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as other work and achievements that have taken place. Here’s what has been happening in the last few days.

COVID-19

Fellow and Statistician Professor Sir David Spiegelhalter discussed his recent research on the different risks of dying from the virus according to age, and commented on the suggested relaxation of the physical distancing rule as well as the modelling which showed that infections in England and Wales peaked days before lockdown.

Social psychologist Dr Sander van der Linden spoke about the behavioural impact of Covid-19.  

Economist Professor Diane Coyle  wrote an article for the ECO called “What are the key sources of data for measuring the economy in a crisis?”

IN OTHER NEWS

Fellow and Reader in Anglophone and Related Literature, Dr Priyamvada Gopal, commented on the toppling of Edward Colston’s statue in Bristol.

Master of Churchill, Professor Dame Athene Donald, commented on initiatives at some higher education institutions to improve the representation of women across all academic positions.

36 Storey’s Way has been shortlisted for the 2020 East RIBA Regional Awards.
