In June last year we trialled the College’s first crowdfunding project with Churchill College Boat Club (CCBC), and the ‘Blades for Victory’ campaign doubled the original fundraising target set, raising over £6,000 including gift aid. It was inspiring to see so many from within our community, and beyond, join together in support of the campaign.
Following this success we decided to build ChuBacker, Churchill College’s very own crowdfunding platform. ChuBacker has been launched to enable current students, Fellows and staff to develop their interests and enhance our community through creative and innovative projects, as well as helping to fund key College priorities including student bursaries. The first project seeking support is the 1988-92 Bursary Appeal which aims to mark the reunion year of all those who matriculated between 1988 – 1992 by raising enough funds across all five year groups to endow a student bursary in perpetuity.
To help celebrate the launch of ChuBacker we are giving away a small number of specially created ChuBacker rocket enamel pin badges to the first 30 donors who use the site. Watch out for more pin badge give-aways with future projects!
ChuBacker projects can be about almost anything, but they should focus on the benefit they will provide to Churchill students and the wider College community. If you have an idea for a project simply get in touch with the Development Office using the contact details below, or drop by for an informal chat. If your project is suitable you will receive full support, advice and tips throughout the process. We will review all projects for suitability and aim to support at least one new project per term on the platform in the first year. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or would like to discuss a potential crowdfunding project!

The 1988-92 Bursary Appeal
Alumni who matriculated at Churchill between 1988-1992 are invited to help mark their reunion year by clubbing together to provide financial support for students at the College today. The plan is to raise enough money across all five year groups to leave a lasting legacy by creating an endowed fund that every year into the future will provide a student with the same educational opportunity you enjoyed.
With annual tuition fees of £9,250 and living costs of a similar amount it is vital that Churchill is able to continue offering high levels of financial support to undergraduate students from low income backgrounds, especially as they have to borrow all the money they need to live and study – there are no grants at all.
Donations to the 1988–92 Bursary Appeal will be used to support students with household incomes of less than £25,000 p.a. by providing them with an annual bursary of £3,500. If each year group contributes £20,000, this will raise enough to endow a full Student Bursary in perpetuity. The creation of an endowed 1988-92 Bursary will leave a lasting legacy that will help secure the future in a deteriorating environment for public funding for high quality education.
You can make regular or one-off donations to the 1988-92 Bursary Appeal via the ChuBacker platform, simply click on the link below and select your year group. If you would prefer to give via another method, you absolutely can do! Your gift will be reflected in the total on the ChuBacker platform within three working days of us receiving your gift.
