Churchill staff member, Chris Reitter, is playing his part in the fight against Covid-19 by joining the new testing laboratory set up by AstraZeneca, GSK and the University of Cambridge at the University’s Anne McLaren Building. This facility will be used for high throughput screening for COVID-19 testing and to explore the use of alternative chemical reagents for test kits in order to help overcome current supply shortages.

Chris, who also works at the Department of Pathology as a research technician in a molecular biology lab, starts training next week with the first real shift taking place on 9 May. Speaking of his new role, Chris said “I think everyone wants to help in what ever way they can at the moment and so it is good that I’m able to help out in this way, working in a lab using the same techniques that I use daily in my own lab.”

Chris will be staying in our College accommodation during his shifts, to reduce his need to travel during the lockdown.
