During these testing times it’s reassuring to hear about all of the hard work being done by the Churchill Community to both manage and inform about the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as other work and achievements that have taken place. Here’s what has been happening in the last few days.

Fellow and Statistician Professor Sir David Spiegelhalter discussed the impact of age on catching and dying of Covid-19 and how continued outbreaks in care homes risk extending the pandemic.

Economist Professor Diane Coyle wrote an opinion piece for The New York Times, asking why it took a pandemic to show how much unpaid work women do.

Senior Research Fellow and Computer Scientist Professor Ross Anderson continued to comment on the latest developments regarding the UK’s contract tracing app.

Materials Scientist Dr Manish Chhowalla was a co-author of an article newly published in Nature called ‘Ultralow-dielectric-constant amorphous boron nitride‘.

Three of our Fellows received academic promotions from the University. Dr Priya Gopal was awarded a full Professorial Chair, whilst Dr Sander van der Linden and Dr Alice Reid were awarded readerships.

We will continue to keep you informed of all of the work being done by the Churchill College Community. If you have any news you would like to share, please get in touch by emailing comms.manager@chu.cam.ac.uk.
