As we navigate our way through our third lockdown In the UK, it would be easy to feel despondent as we all remain physically separated. However the Churchill community is stronger than ever, and we will continue to bring you weekly updates of the exciting work being done by our Members, both in response to the coronavirus pandemic, and in many other fields. Here’s what has been happening in the last few days.
Lord Boateng, the new Chair of the Sir Winston Churchill Archive Trust, was interviewed by Allen Packwood, Director of the Churchill Archives Centre, where he set out his vision for the collection.
Economist Professor Diane Coyle discussed comments made by Boris Johnson in relation to the UK vaccine programme. (starts 39m 37s)
Fellow Professor Priya Gopal wrote a piece discussing the conflicting views surrounding Sir Winston Churchill.
Fellow and Group Director of Assessment Research and Development at Cambridge Assessment, Tim Oates, suggested that Increasing the frequency of assessment could provide a “fallback” for GCSEs and A levels in the future.
Director of the Archives Centre, Allen Packwood, joined a panel on BBC Radio 3 to look at the ways Churchill’s story and legacy are being written now by historians.
Student and JCR President, Hannah Saint (U19) spoke to us about Cambridge Women Who Lead (CWWL), the new society she has established.
Fellow and Statistician Professor Sir David Spiegelhalter wrote about why we need to be very careful when interpreting stories about the AZ vaccine and blood clots, and spoke to the Naked Scientists on the subject.
